Cost of postage to rise in July

The cost of postage is set to rise in July, New Zealand Post says.

The standard letter rate, which is the cost of sending a medium-sized letter by standard post in New Zealand, is set to increase from 70 cents to 80 cents.

Sending larger letters would also cost more, increasing from $1.40 to $1.60.

Extra large and oversize letters would fall under one one oversize letter category, with the new postage required to send them within New Zealand set at $2.40 - 40 cents less than the current oversize letter price.

Postage to send standard parcels within New Zealand will also go up. Depending on the size of the parcel and whether it was self-wrapped or in a New Zealand Post postage bag, people would be paying between 10 cents and $1 more.

Meanwhile, premium letter services, which is Fast Post and Box Link, would not change in cost, New Zealand Post said.

Mail going overseas is also set to cost more, with postage for aerogrammes, postcards and medium and large letters increasing by 10 cents on July 1.

Extra large and oversize letters heading overseas would go up by between 10 cents and 30 cents depending on the destination, New Zealand Post said.

Parcels going off-shore would increase by an average of 4 per cent, and the International Economy parcel service would be withdrawn and replaced with one from International Air, the company said.
