Coach Grant Brewster is optimistic of a strong showing by his Wairarapa under-13 girls hockey team at their regional Rawleigh trophy tournament to be played at Clareville from September 24 to 27. Brewster has been pleased with the lead-up form shown by his side, form which has included a 7-1 victoryover Manawatu, a 1-0 win over Ruahine-Dannevirke and two one goal losses to a powerful Hawke's Bay unit. The importance of consistency in tournament play is stressed by Brewster and he believes that will be the key to Wairarapa competing well enough against formidable opposition in pool play to place highly on the competition table. " You can't afford to have one bad day and that's what we need to guard against," Brewster said. "We have the potential to be right up there, it's just a matter of flicking the right switch day in and day out." Tournament play also tests the fitness of teams and Brewster is confident that with the Wairarapa side having benefited from some extra training in that respect from former Wairarapa-Bush rugby rep Mike O'Connor they will measure up well there. Wairarapa will start their Rawleigh trophy campaign with a match against Taranaki on Monday morning followed by a second game against Hutt Valley that afternoon.
