Cinemas emptied by smell of smoke

Moviegoers in five cinemas were evacuated from the Hoyts Lower Hutt complex yesterday because of the smell of burning.

Senior Station Officer Guy Brewer of the Fire Service said the theatres were cleared as a precaution while firefighters searched for the source of the smell.

It was found to be a small electrical fire in a computer board.
