Christchurch dairy stabbing: Teen arrested after Opawa robbery

A teenager has been arrested after a Christchurch dairy owner was seriously injured in an armed robbery this morning.

The 14-year-old was arrested at a Woolston address about 3.45 pm after investigators traced the crime back to the property.

He will appear in the Christchurch Youth Court tomorrow to face charges for the incident.

Three people robbed the Opawa Rd store at 6.40 am, stabbing and causing serious injuries to the owner before fleeing the scene with the store’s till.

Christchurch District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill said police are continuing to search for the remaining offenders.

“This morning’s attack on an innocent person is shocking, but I hope this arrest brings some comfort to our community”, Hill said.

“The investigation team is working relentlessly to track down those involved.”

Police are seeking information from the public about a silver Toyota MarkX with the registration NRP221 identified as the vehicle used to flee the scene.

“We know other people were involved in this incident and we need to hear from people in the community if they have information that could help us locate the offenders.

“We would like anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the Opawa or surrounding areas to please contact police immediately.”
