Chilled end to holidays

An unseasonable wintry blast brought some excitement to the end of the school holidays for these kids travelling home on the Desert Rd yesterday.

Snow closed the road between Rangipo and Waiouru for much of the morning.

Wild weather caused havoc elsewhere in the North Island, too, with gales damaging buildings in Palmerston North and downing power lines in South Taranaki and fallen trees closing roads in Horowhenua.
