Celtic Marist overcame the odds to beat Kuranui College 38-34 in their Netball Wairarapa premier one match played at the Colombo road courts on Saturday.
Allowed to have only five players on the court at any one time as a penalty for not fulfilling umpiring commitments earlier in the season, Celtic
Marist started as underdogs against a Kuranui side desperate for the win which would greatly enhance their prospects of making the semi-finals.
But while Kuranui had their noses in front going into the final quarter it was Celtic Marist who finished the stronger and they pulled away for a relatively comfortable four goal victory.
The other premier one match played on Saturday saw St Matthews Collegiate battle their way to a hard-fought 20-18 win over Gladstone All Blacks.
St Matthews and unbeaten Harcourts 1 are now guaranteed semi-final spots but Celtic Marist, Gladstone All Blacks and Kuranui College are still involved in a keen struggle for the other two positions.
In the premier one reserve grade Fagan Motors continued to maintain their excellent run of form with a 41-35 win over Salute Greytown while there was an upset in premier three with Eketahuna sneaking a 28-27 win over the well-performed Magie B's.
