Car crash at Beachlands Speedway, Dunedin leaves one person with serious injuries

A car crash at Beachlands Speedway racetrack has left one person seriously injured.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at the private track in Waldronville, Dunedin at 7.10pm.

Police said one person has serious injuries and enquiries are underway.

St John sent an operations manager, one rapid response unit and one ambulance to the address on Friendship Dr.

Fire and Emergency sent two fire trucks, one from Lookout Pt and one from Brighton volunteer, where crews are currently assisting ambulance.

According to the Beachlands Speedway website, it is night two of a clay track racing event ‘Modified Thunder’.

The family friendly event has returned after an eight-year break, featuring modified V8 car “chaos”.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

Beachlands Speedway has declined to comment.

A car racing on the track in April 2024 catapulted over the safety fence, almost landing on top of spectators. No one was harmed.
