Boy seriously injured after colliding with SUV in Coromandel town of Colville

An 8-year-old is in hospital after his child-sized motorbike collided with an SUV.

The boy was riding the motorbike on a farm road in the Coromandel town of Colville.

He went around a corner and collided with the SUV at about 40km/h, accord to the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

When the helicopter arrived, firefighters and ambulance were at the scene.

They transferred the boy to Auckland's Starship Hospital in a serious condition.
