Boy in dock over Rotorua stabbing

A 16-year-old boy appeared in the Porirua Youth Court yesterday charged with the stabbing murder of Rotorua woman Tanya Burr on Sunday night.

But an order made by Judge Semi Epati prevents the reporting of any of its proceedings.

The chairman of the press freedom committee of the Commonwealth Press Union, Gavin Ellis, said given the unusual effect of the ruling, clarification would be sought.

Tanya Burr is due to be buried at Kelvin Grove Cemetery in Palmerston North tomorrow.
