Kiwis tuning into the election debate tonight have certain expectations about what Jacinda Ardern and Bill English are going to say.
Reddit user thegolfer2 shared his "Great Election Debate Drinking Game" to help fellow New Zealanders cope with the evening.
The game involves having a sip every time one of the candidates uses one of their catchphrases or whenever particular buzzwords from this election are mentioned.
To play the game, you should take one (small) sip whenever you hear the following words or phrases:
- Delivering for New Zealand(ers)
- Let's do this
- Relentless dissatisfaction
- Growing economy
- Let me be clear
- Inequality is rising/growing
- Paying their fair share
- Social Investment
- Waterview Tunnel/s
- Airport rail
- Bottom line
- Out of touch
- It is time we have/had a conversation
- Hard working Kiwis/New Zealanders deserve ...
Take two sips whenever you hear:
- Comrade
- International Socialist Youth
- Dipton
- Todd Barclay
- People not cars
- Tax, borrow, spend - it must be this exact phrase with no additional words in between
- Battlers.
Finish your vessel if:
- Bill English provides a one-word answer with no further explanation to one of Mike Hosking's questions
- Bill English says "Show me the money"
- Jacinda Ardern speaks for three minutes straight without being interrupted.
- Jacinda Ardern says "This Government is corrupt".
The Reddit user invited others to add their own contributions to the game and a few delivered, suggesting additions such as "people sleeping in cars", "Chinese" or the expression "moving forward".
Please ensure that you drink responsibly.
