Bay of Plenty siege: Police officers discharged from hospital

Three police officers shot by a gunman in the Bay of Plenty last week have been discharged from hospital.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush revealed the information in a Police blog today.

A fourth officer wounded in the siege near Kawerau, on Wednesday, remains in hospital.

"I have been getting daily updates on the status of our four staff who were injured in the shocking events last week," Mr Bush said.

"Like all of you, our thoughts remain with our staff and their whanau. I'm pleased to advise that three have been discharged, but one is still receiving treatment in hospital. "I know the Police family will continue to support them and we wish them a speedy recovery."

Local man Rhys Warren was arrested following a 22-hour stand-off with police, after he allegedly shot four officers who had been called out to a property that morning.

The 27-year-old -- who appeared in the Whakatane District Court the next day -- faces four charges of using a firearm against law enforcement.

He is due back in the Rotorua District Court on March 24.
