The parents of a little girl who was raped and murdered in Brazil are celebrating the birth of a baby daughter.
Kiwi Karl Paroli's wife Luciana Muratori gave birth to Joy on October 7, 10 months after 3-year-old Cloe was killed in Trancoso, a coastal resort.
It's "a bit of happiness after all the sadness", Muratori said.
The couple have faced a traumatic year since their daughter's death.
They had rented a house inside a secure walled compound close to the beach for a holiday.
But they weren't to know that the man who later confessed to killing their daughter - Luzinei Araujo Santos, 24 - was working inside the compound as a newly hired assistant to the gardener.
Paroli and Muratori had to endure months of resistance from police to investigate the death of Cloe, who was found drowned in a river beside the holiday compound.
Joy's arrival saw friends from around the world post well-wishes on the couple's Facebook pages.
"So happy for you guys, you deserve all the happiness that a little baby brings!"
"Good stuff mate!! congrats to you and your beautiful family!"
The couple are planning on moving to Australia at the end of the year, but they are continuing the fight for justice against the man who brutally took their little daughter's life.
"That monster is still in jail awaiting his trial.
"We have hired a lawyer to make sure he will get maximum time," said Muratori.
"I cannot stop thinking how can a person do such a thing. It is just beyond me to imagine such a person exists."
