Train delays in Auckland as Newmarket station faces infrastructure issue

The Southern and Western lines have resumed running after disruptions at Newmarket station.

Commuters were struggling to get home after an infrastructure issue interrupted Auckland’s train service.

An Auckland Transport spokesperson said a maintenance team finished repairs and travellers could expect services to resume quickly.

The Western line is now running every 20 minutes and can stop at Newmarket station.

The Southern line is now running every 10 to 20 minutes and can stop at all stations.

All Onehunga services are still temporarily suspended.

Earlier, trains departing from Waitematā Station were full, with commuters on the Southern line being told they were waiting for a train driver.

The spokesperson said “disruptions like this are frustrating for our passengers and we would like to thank them for their patience today as we have worked to redirect trains to keep people moving as best as we can”.

Auckland Transport recommends travellers continue to check the app and website for updates about the situation.
