A man has been taken into custody by police after a shot was fired at occupants of a boat from another vessel in Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour.
Police were alerted to reports of a firearm being discharged by a man on a boat in the upper reaches of the harbour, north
of Hobsonville Point, at about 9.30am, after reports of a fight on the water.
Inspector Peter Raynes said no injuries were reported but the police Eagle helicopter was sent to scour the harbour for the launch from which the shots were fired.
After the vessel was found, the Armed Offenders Squad was called in and transported across the harbour in one of the Police Maritime Unit’s rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs).
