“This behaviour won’t be tolerated in our community, and investigators are working diligently to identify those responsible and hold them to account for their actions,” Darvill said.
He said that while police understood the community’s frustration and concern, the incident appeared to be isolated.
“I want to reassure people that we are working as hard as we can to get to the bottom of what happened,” he said.
Police and partner agencies are supporting those injured, with at least one young person remaining in hospital following surgery.
Darvill urged anyone with information, including cellphone footage, who had not yet spoken to police to come forward.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact police via 105 or online, quoting file number 260328/8294. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
