Traffic: Crash on Auckland Harbour Bridge causing backlog across motorway network

Rush hour traffic is off to a bad start after a crash on the Auckland Harbour Bridge this afternoon.

Commuters should expect delays and take extra care when driving across the bridge, the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) said.

The crash blocked a northbound lane, but had now been cleared, NZTA said.

Backlogged traffic was tailing back through Spaghetti Junction and on to the Port Link and Southern Motorways, choking at least 16km of the motorway network.

Police said the crash involved three vehicles, but no one was hurt.

It was is the second crash on the harbour bridge today, after a car and motorcycle collided at the foot of the bridge about 12.30pm.

NZTA said the collision was in the right, northbound lane near the Shelly Beach Rd overbridge.

The lane was blocked, with motorists advised to take care passing the crash, the agency said.

The crash has now been cleared, but drivers are told to expect delays until congestion has eased.

Police said their motorway unit was there, but no serious injuries had been reported.
