Auckland police seize 3D‑printed gun and shotgun in separate stops overnight

Police discovered two guns inside two separate vehicles next to the drivers during routine vehicle stops across Auckland.

Police said they seized a 3D‑printed gun and a shotgun just hours apart overnight.

Relieving Auckland central area commander inspector Wayne Kitcher said officers conducting vehicle stops in central Auckland last night pulled over a vehicle on Customs St West about 12.20am.

He said while speaking with the driver, officers noticed a gun near the driver’s door and requested additional units.

“The driver was quickly taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle located a 3D-printed firearm with ammunition,” Kitcher said.

Police said a 37-year-old man will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of methamphetamine.

Just hours later, Kitcher said officers stopped a vehicle allegedly speeding on Carrington Rd in Mount Albert.

“While police were speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, they saw a suspicious looking zip-lock bag in the centre console,” Kitcher said.

“A further search of the vehicle has then located a shotgun in the boot.”

Two men, aged 41 and 27, and a 42-year-old woman have been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and will appear in Auckland District Court today.

Kitcher said police are pleased that another two firearms were now off the streets and out of the Auckland community.
