Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown has released a humorous Christmas message taking a dig at Wellington.
In a video released to social media today, Brown shared his advice for the “stupid season” and even enlisted a special guest – Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.
Brown said he thought the silly seasonshould be relabelled as the “stupid season” amid a crisis of a lack of common sense.

“This is my Christmas message to Aucklanders. It’s light-hearted, but the advice is real: look after yourself, look after the people around you, and try not to turn a good summer into a memorable one for all the wrong reasons,” Brown said.
As the video begins, Brown said his plans for the Christmas season were to escape the City of Sails and enjoy some time up north.
“All I want for Christmas is five minutes of quiet, no crisis, no phone calls, and no fixing everybody else’s problem. But every year, without fail, we seem to suffer a severe drought of common sense,” Brown joked.
He went on to give Aucklanders some summer advice, including driving tips, sun and surf safety and even reminded people how to be a tidy Kiwi.

Brown’s advice for Christmas Day was to keep politics out of the festivities.
“If you’ve got any Aussies over for Christmas dinner, don’t get in a row about who invented the pavlova.
“Best to keep politics out of Christmas,” Brown said.
Shortly after in the video, Swarbrick arrived at his door and provided partygoers with some safety advice for the festival season.
“All right, team. Festivals. They’re fun, they’re loud, and they go best when you use your head. If you’re going to take anything, get it checked first,” Swarbrick said.
She said the team at Know Your Stuff give great advice around the safety of drugs.
“It’s legal, it’s free, and it could literally save your life,” Swarbrick said.
One of New Zealand’s most popular comedians, Leigh Hart, also made an appearance, flipping sausages on the barbecue.
Brown ended the video with a dig at Wellington.
“Merry Christmas. Have a New Year. Don’t do dumb stuff.
