Police investigating a fatal hit and run that killed a 79-year-old man have made an arrest.
Jalil Mousses, 79, died after he was hit by as he crossed Russell Rd at about 7.30pm on June 26.
The white or light coloured Honda Stream vehicle, travelling at speed towards Browns Rd,struck him, failed to stop and fled the scene.
Mousses, a father of five and a grandfather to 12, had just been visiting his family. He died at Middlemore Hospital as a result of his injuries a short time later.
Police have now arrested a 27-year-old man and charged him with failing to stop to ascertain Injury, and driving while disqualified.
He is due to appear in the Manukau District Court on July 14. Police are not ruling out further charges being laid.
Police last week released CTTV footage of the offending vehicle turning into Browns Rd, urging anyone with information on who it belonged to to contact police.

Acting Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin last week urged the driver of the vehicle to turn themself in.
