Armed police swarm Auckland’s Avondale, block street as part of ‘ongoing investigation’

Armed police have swarmed Auckland’s Avondale, blocking off a road as part of an “ongoing investigation”.

A spokesperson said officers were at a property on Avondale Rd “conducting inquiries” on Tuesday afternoon.

A witness said 11 police vehicles were in attendance and officers were armed.

Video obtained by the Herald shows a police vehicle blocking Avondale Rd and traffic diverted down a side road.

“We can reassure the public in the area that there is no ongoing risk as a result of this,” police said.

“There is no ongoing incident at this address.”

The spokesperson said they were unable to provide further details, but would look to do so “once we are in a position [to]”.

“Police acknowledge resident’s co-operation with some traffic disruption in the area this evening.”

Images shared with the Herald also show and Auckland Transport bus in the middle of the road within the police cordon.

A spokesman for Auckland Transport said: “[It] would be best to check with police.”
