"Police are urging people to report any incidents of suspicious behaviour after a number of incidents within the Hawke's Bay area where females have been indecently assaulted."
As part of the investigation police had been compiling a detailed description of the offender or offenders and will release further information as soon as they could, he said.
Last week principals of Napier Girls' High School and Woodford House released letters to their communities informing them of two separate incidents involving students.
On Wednesday afternoon a Year 13 Woodford House student was running with a friend when she was reportedly grabbed by a young, well-dressed male as they ran past him on Palmerston Rd, Havelock North.
The following morning a Napier Girls' High School student reported being grabbed from behind by a man while walking to school on Bluff Hill shortly before 9am.
Police are also making inquiries into an attempted indecent assault at the intersection of Meeanee and Lee Rds in Taradale last Wednesday night.
Last month a woman was sexually assaulted while walking in the Shakespeare Rd area on Bluff Hill and at the end of September a female jogger was attacked while exercising on O'Dowd Rd in Taradale around 6am.
Anyone who encounters an assault like this is advised to make noise, call for help and immediately dial 111.
Detective Sergeant Crowe said if people felt safe enough to take a video of a suspicious event on their cellphone it would benefit the investigation team.
People walking alone at night were encouraged to keep to well-lit areas, hold bags with valuables close, keep cell phones at hand, walk close to the gutter-side of pathways and walk facing traffic.
