Alcohol ban may follow drunken New Year's riot

The manager of Nelson's Tahuna Beach Holiday Park will consider imposing an alcohol ban next New Year's Eve following a drunken riot that left thousands of dollars worth of damage last night.

Police were called in to break up last night's revelry after party goers attacked a police car and demolished a toilet block.

Camp manager Neil Barrett said as the camp is on Council-owned reserve land it is possible to pass a by-law to ban alcohol.

But he said that move would penalise the more responsible drinkers.
