An Air New Zealand flight from Buenos Aires to Auckland has had to turn around and head back to Buenos Aires.

Flight NZ31 is returning to Buenos Aires due to a passenger medical issue, an Air New Zealand spokesman said.

The Boeing 777 will be refuelled and continue on to Auckland.

It was originally expected in Auckland soon after 5am.
