Australian rugby captain John Eales today confirmed speculation that he would retire at the end of the Tri-Nations competition.
Speaking to students at his old Brisbane high school, Marist Brothers, Eales said he would officially announce his retirement at a function at Ballymore later today.
Eales, a veteran of 83 tests, will follow coach Rod Macqueen into retirement after a career littered with success.
The 31-year-old lock has been Wallaby captain since 1996 and played in two World Cup-winning sides, led Australia to Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations success, and the last month's series win against the Lions.
Eales' last test will be against the All Blacks at Sydney's Olympic Stadium on September 1.
