Sanson cafe Viv's Kitchen celebrates milestone cream horn sale

A popular cafe celebrated a milestone sale of its iconic treat over the weekend.

Home of the famous cream horn, Viv's Kitchen in Sanson celebrated its 300,000th sale of the sweet treat on Friday - and the lucky buyer received a $1000 Leader and Watt voucher to recognise the achievement.

Owners Kevan and Viv Withers said their cream horn movement really picked up traction when TV and radio host Duncan Garner shouted them out a few years ago.

"At that stage we were lucky if we were selling three a day," Viv Withers said.

"Then people started looking for them and I started taking a tally of how many we were selling. We pushed and pushed and here we are, 300,000 later."

It took the cafe four years to sell 100,000 cream horns. It reached its second 100,000 in just another two years. It's taken just over a year to get to the 300,000 mark.

"Coming out of Covid lockdown, it has been huge. We have noticed it big time since then," Withers said.

With six different flavours, Withers said the cream horn continued to grow in popularity.

"We used to average 150 to 160 a day. The day after we were on Seven Sharp, we sold 710. We weren't prepared for that."

Later in the day after the 300,000th sale, Withers gathered her staff to recognise employee Cris, who has produced around "90 per cent" of them.

"You have been with us for over six years and your service, dedication and loyalty cannot be matched.

"She's the cream horn queen. I was out there with her before rolling some, and she is better than I am. She is fantastic. We acknowledged her contribution and presented her with a watch as a thanks."

Withers thanked the whole community for their support over the years and said she had a suspicion the next milestone might creep up a bit quicker this time.

"People are always telling us how well known we are and how busy it is, but we just go with it."
