Revealed: Who nominated who for Palmerston North City Council byelection

Three Palmerston North city councillors nominated three candidates for last month's byelection.

Councillor Lorna Johnson was first nominator for the winner, Orphee Mickalad. Mickalad's second nominator was Desmond Mupokosa.

In a campaign video, Johnson said she has known Mickalad for 15 years. "He's a real hard worker, he knows the city well." Johnson also said he is a "smart lad" and a good team player.

Prominent businessman Paul O'Brien nominated the runner-up, William Wood. Wood's second nominator was Cr Susan Baty.

Wood, who also stood for Parliament last year, announced on Monday he is now a real estate agent with Bayleys Manawatū.

Stefan Speller was the third candidate to be nominated by a sitting councillor, this time Vaughan Dennison. Speller's second nominator was his father, Andrew Speller.

Former New Zealand First MP Darroch Ball was nominated by Graeme Wattes and Cheryl Wattes.

James Candish was nominated by his wife, Maree Candish, and Darryn Taylor.

Green Party candidate Vanessa Rozenberg was nominated by Thomas Austin and Shivarn Stewart.

Sarah Spillane was nominated by her husband, Rodger Spillane, and Linda Te Rure.

Andy Asquith was nominated by Robert Hodgson and K Stuart Birks.

Georgia Donaldson and Caitlin Day nominated Nikita Skipper. Day lives at the same address as Skipper.

Maruna Engu and Vicky Engu - who live at the same address - nominated Nathan Wilson.

Ross Barber, who asked for his name to be shown on the voting document as "Team God", was nominated by Aung Aung and Te-Kai-Po Ahuriri.

The deadline for the 11 candidates to submit their expense forms is April 16.
