Farmers were in action on Wednesday (March 23) to highlight the importance of taking time to invest in their own health and wellbeing.
The Farmstrong Fit4Farming Cycle Tour travelled to Feilding and encouraged Manawatu farmers to pick up their bike and take a break from their usual routine.
The communityevent was one of many across New Zealand which aims to remind farmers of the need to engage in physical activity to help maintain their overall health.
Organiser Ian Handcock said long hours, uncontrollable stress factors such as environmental and financial pressures, and the opportunity for solitude can bring on a negative mind-set which tends to stick.
"When people take time to stop and get involved with exercise away from regular farm duties it helps with overall mental and physical wellbeing. We encouraged farmers to see themselves as the most important asset on the farm. Taking time to look after their physical and mental health can put them in a better position to run their business."
Farmers were able to bike, run or walk three different tracks and share their stories to help others.
"We made it clear that it's important to talk when we are struggling or if we need help as we are all in it together," Mr Handcock said.
Participants chose from a 40km or 10km road ride and a 5km walk or run. They were also given free fruit and water after the event while socialising and problem solving.
