Mari Llewellyn has suffered from depression and anxiety for most of her life.

Her depression was heaviest at a point that should have been one of the happiest of her life.

During college, Mari embraced the party lifestyle and her health fell by the wayside.

At her heaviest she weighed 111kg.

While she wasn't happy with how she looked, Mari was more concerned about her mental health. So she decided it was time to make a change and take better care of her body.

The 23-year-old went on to lose 34kg and now has her own exercise program and 293k followers on Instagram, who love following her body transformation journey.

"I stopped drinking and eating out, I changed my diet to clean foods, high protein and moderate low-fat carbohydrates. I also began weightlifting almost every day," she explains.

The college graduate from Philadelphia has become an advocate for lifting weights to improve your physique.

I think this post might answer that question! I am 190 lbs in each photo, the left is last year and the right is me 2 weeks ago. The difference between these photos: - 1. My muscle mass ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ I am 1 year into weight lifting and have worked hard to increase my muscle mass! 2. Strength ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I am much stronger now than I have ever been before! 3. Food ๐ŸŒฎ Guess what! I eat way MORE now than I did in the left photo! With more muscle mass it takes more calories to maintain my weight, which makes it easier when it comes time to lose fat. (I know this sounds confusing I will be making a YouTube video about this topic soon.) - MAIN POINT: Weightlifting is a win-win weight loss tool. While putting on more muscle you are BURNING CALORIES! (Yes weightlifting burns calories!) AND with more muscle, you will need to eat more to maintain your weight, AKA it is easier to lose fat (yay!) - If you take anything from this post- I want it to be that I encourage you to try lifting some weights! 20K!!!! I feel SO blessed to have so much support from you all. Iโ€™m so lucky to be able to share my journey with you, as well as hear yours โค๏ธ I receive messages from you guys everyday that inspire me to keep grinding ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ โœจ This picture shows two memorable moments for me. The left photo is fall of 2016. This was the first time in my life that my weight was spiraling out of control. I was struggling to complete a hike my boyfriend and I were so excited for. I couldnโ€™t keep up. I was fatigued, sweaty and miserable. Mentally, I was in a fog of depression and anxiety. The right photo is summer 2017. It was the best I have ever felt in my life. I felt comfortable in my body. I was thinking clearly and I had a positive outlook on life for the first time in a long time ๐Ÿ˜Š โœจ If youโ€™re reading this and you feel stuck, remember YOU have the power to change your life. If you asked the person on the left if she thought sheโ€™d ever end up where I am now- sheโ€™d say a BIG no. You never know what youโ€™re capable of until you do it ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ
