Built by a psychotic 19th-century millionaire who exploited kids in his mill, an old house is now used by a nutty professor (Liam Neeson) for experiments in fear.

He invites an odd trio — party girl (Cath-erine Zeta Jones), Dennis Hopper look-alike (Owen Wilson) and frump (Lili Taylor) — "to examine sleep patterns," plants a few suggestions and watches the terror created.

Except the house is in on the joke and creates its own things that go clunk in the night. Mostly, the movie.
