At this stage, the reason behind the inner city film set is unknown.
The Herald has approached film and video production company Piki Films, founded by Taika Waititi, for comment.
The JoJo Rabbit director has been busy this year, travelling with his wife, singer Rita Ora, celebrating his 50th birthday in Ibiza, and popping up across the motu, including a surprise appearance at New Zealand Fashion Week earlier this year.
The star recently returned to Kiwi screens in an acting role for the hit NZ comedy series Educators.
Before this, Waititi’s last acting appearance in a fully NZ television production was playing vampire Viago in dark comedy mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows in 2014.
This year, the booked and busy director has also been working on the yet-to-be-released film Klara and the Sun, which was filmed in NZ and stars Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne.
