All Blacks great and recent New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame inductee Richie McCaw pressing his wife Gemma McCaw's glitzy frock ahead of last night's Halberg Awards.
From rugby legend to dress-ironing duty — Richie McCaw has amused fans with a behind-the-scenes moment before the Halberg Awards.
A short video posted to Instagram by Gemma McCaw showed the former All Black captain ironing her black gown before last night’s 63rd Annual Halberg Awards where he was inductedinto the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame.
Set to Olivia Dean’s Man I Need, the video offered fans a private but wholesome moment.
The footage shows the 45-year-old holding the structured corset-style bodice of the dress in one hand, while gently pressing the chiffon skirt in the other, pausing at one point to grin at the camera.
The former Black Sticks captain captioned the image “From Coast to Coast support crew to Halberg dress crew“, acknowledging McCaw’s support after she completed the gruelling Kathmandu Coast to Coast over the weekend.
“What a feeling crossing that finish line with my girls,” she wrote in a post celebrating the achievement.
“These moments are never achieved alone,” she continued, thanking her “in-laws for helping with our girls so I could race, to my husband for everything, my friends who leant me shoes which I had forgotten”.
The couple, who celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary last month, later posed for photos in their formalwear in their hotel room before heading out to Spark Arena for the ceremony.
McCaw was inducted into the NZ Sports Hall of Fame alongside Olympic champ Valerie Adams.
Addressing the audience, McCaw described his honour as “huge”.
“I saw the list of 175 different names, legends who’ve forged the way in New Zealand sport throughout our history, he said.
“To be alongside some of them is truly amazing.”

Reflecting on his career, he paid tribute to his teammates, saying individual success in a team sport was never achieved alone.
“I was fortunate to play alongside some of the best New Zealand have ever had. It kind of made it easy to do that on a regular basis.”
Gemma acknowledged Richie’s achievement in an admiring Instagram story writing: “So proud of you. Not just today, but every day. The most special man. What a gift it is to share this life with you and our kids.″
