No one wants to make an expensive mistake with makeup, so it pays to get expert advice. Cosmetic counters should do this willingly, or offer a lengthier consultation for a fee redeemable on purchase, but right now Elizabeth Arden has a special focus on foundations, making this an excellent time

Fly me to the moon
It's no secret that here at Viva we are fans of Louis Vuitton's Core Values advertising campaign which has seen the likes of Mikhail Gorbachev, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf captured by leading photographer Annie Leibovitz to promote the brand's exquisite luggage. That's why we just had to point out the latest in the series, commemorating beautifully the 40th anniversary of man's conquest of the moon (which was actually celebrated yesterday). Under a night sky, on the back of an old pickup truck in the desert, Leibovitz has evocatively photographed astronauts Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon; Jim Lovell, the commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission in 1970, who guided his crew safely back to earth; and Sally Ride, who in 1983 was the first American woman to venture into space. The tagline? "Some journeys change mankind for ever." That's powerful advertising on all levels. For more about the shoot, see www.louisvuittonjourneys.com
