The trickling, wiry and uplifting sound of Zimbabwean Mtukudzi's guitar wove its particular magic at the last Womad here - which is probably recommendation enough for those fortunate enough to catch him.
This airy, warm album lets that guitar breathe easilyand the vocals, which Bonnie Raitt in the liner notes likens to that of Toots and Otis, have a distinctive yearning quality.
There's probably an alt.radio summertime hit in the catchy Mai Varamba, with a backing vocal hook by Mary Bell and Mwendi Chibindi, but mostly this is just one of those albums which will unfurl its easy charms over long Sundays in summer.
As with so many guitarist/singers from north and west Africa, the incomprehensible lyrics (thematic translations offered) sing of sadness, loss and pain - yet do it over the most elevating music.
