Just when you thought desserts couldn't get any more over-the-top, a new doughy, creamy, sugar-laden creation has been born... the doughnut cone.
Although the doughnut cone is yet to land in New Zealand, Australian fans have been lapping them up, and the internet is awash with photos of the super-indulgent desserts.
Like a doughnut on crack, the ice cream-doughnut hybrid features a hollow, doughy "cone", which is deep fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar, before being stuffed with ice cream and finished with lashings of chocolate sauce.

Or, if chocolate doesn't take your fancy, other variants include adding Nutella or fresh berries to the cone.
The sugary trend is apparently based on Trdelník - a traditional Romanian rolled pastry that is grilled and topped with sugar and walnuts.
The decadent dessert is available at a cafe at Sydney's Bondi Beach for about $10 each, and the sugary cones have also been cropping up in Canada and Prague.
Similar versions are available in Hong Kong and California, involving a bubble-textured waffle rolled into a cigar shape and filled with ice cream.
And if you're looking for an excuse to treat yourself to a doughnut, how about the fact that today is National Doughnut Day - well, in the US. But surely we should celebrate too?
