Miranda Kerr struts her stuff in Aussie fashion show (+photos)

Under rows of chandeliers Miranda Kerr opened the David Jones Autumn/Winter 2013 show in the department store's newest and most controversial label.

Wearing a very structured bronzed latte-coloured mini cocktail dress, teamed with a leather choker and sky-high heels, Kerr sashayed down the catwalk in Ellery.

The catfight started when designer Kym Ellery defected from rival Australian department store Myer to join the David Jones family of Aussie designers - with the case heading to the Supreme Court in April.

But it was business as usual for the supermodel with Kerr saying she was very excited to wear the designer's collection.

"The relationship with Ellery is really an exciting relationship for David Jones,'' she said before the show on Wednesday.

"She's a really talented designer and she's doing great things.''

Politics aside, the supermodel kicked off the celebrations as the world's oldest continuously operating department store marks its 175th year.

"It's a special time. I actually really love the relationship I have with them... they've become like family to me,'' Kerr said.

Some of the season's hottest looks at the show came from Camilla And Marc, Scanlan & Theodore, Josh Goot and Thurley.

Fitted pants paired with smart cropped jackets were a strong theme from the runway, situated on the Elizabeth Street store's exclusive Level Seven.

But it was the collection from Dion Lee that stole the show.

The 26-year-old Sydneysider, who is heading to London as a finalist for the International Woolmark Prize this month, is a young designer destined for big things.

Kerr closed the show in Lee's sexy black leather outfit featuring his current signature style of crisscross leather strips.

Other models wore his edgy skirts and jackets - with his pale blue and silver creation an absolute masterpiece. Also in his collection his mini dresses had a touch of psychedelic.

Camilla And Marc's short black draped skirt with a tunic-style top was also paraded by Kerr.

Fellow David Jones ambassador Samantha Harris looked glamorous in a full black leather A-line dress, while Lover showed off its latest season's sexy evening wear with a stunning indigo lace cocktail dress.

Thurley has a strong theme with jackets and pants in black, gold and bronze brocade.

Josh Goot's latest collection was impressive. A marble-like designed fabric with strong gold edging was used in fabulous mini skirts and jackets with Kerr modelling one of the outfits.

Willow has gone for a lot of black and bronze with cut-out tops. Kerr again turned heads when she appeared in a warrior-looking outfit teamed with high lace-up boots. A series of leather mini skirts with cut-out trimming are sure to be a hit this winter.

Carl Kapp showed off plenty of floor-length dresses with padded shoulders, in strong ocean blues while Alex Perry's red dress with beige cut-outs was sophisticated.

Carla Zampatti proved she is the queen of glamour with a series of low-cut, long elegant gowns with sheer backs, her added touches of sequins, fur and velvet giving them a Great Gatsby feel.

But designer Rachel Gilbert, another new addition to David Jones, also showed a collection with plenty of 1920s glamour.

Kerr says she's got her eye on few pieces and will happily pack them in her suitcase for her return to New York.

The girl from Gunnedah says she loves wearing Aussie brands and supporting the labels overseas but admits the designers don't really need her.

"They are waving their own flag - they don't necessarily need me - they're doing so well. Most of these brands are so well recognised overseas anyway, but definitely I support Australians all the way, no matter where I am."
