Linda Clark will replace Kim Hill on National Radio's flagship morning show.
Clark's appointment as host of nine to noon may be announced today by Radio New Zealand.
Hill left the show after almost 10 years to take over the Saturday morning slot from John Campbell.
Clark, one of five people short-listed for the job, declined to comment yesterday.
She is on maternity leave from TVNZ - she gave birth to twin boys in January - and it is not known how National Radio will fit in with her television commitments.
Clark has a radio spot on Newstalk ZB discussing the week's events with Paul Holmes and Tau Henare.
Newstalk ZB manager Bill Francis said he was not aware of Clark's appointment but if she were joining National Radio she would not be able to continue with the station.
It is understood Clark and RNZ were yesterday finalising details of her contract.
It is thought she would return to Wellington for the radio job.
Clark, a former TVNZ political editor, moved to Auckland in early 2000 to become editor of Grace magazine, which folded at the end of that year.
She hosted Face the Nation and returned to television full-time last year to front TV On late news bulletin, Late Edition.
