'Jacinda Ardern' impersonator triumphs at Drag Wars competition

She may not yet have won the election, but it appears Jacinda Ardern - or at least an impersonator - has won the drag queen Drag Wars competition.

Donning Ardern's iconic Labour-red blazer, drag queen dancer Miss Geena moved her way to victory at Friday night's dance-off in Auckland.

During Miss Geena's performance, she lip-synced some of Ardern's most iconic comments and lines from her 2017 election campaign, much to the delight of the crowd.

"Why after nine years do we still have the same figures around inequality, the same figures around child poverty. You've tried your ideas, they haven't altered", was just one of many lines from Ardern that Geena mimed to over Cher's tune Woman's World.

Drag Wars is an amateur drag queen competition where local queens compete for the crowd's - "drag dollars" -fake dollar bills - that can be exchanged for real dollars after the show.

Winners of Drag Wars, which is held every month or so at Encore Cabaret on K Road, will go through to the Drag Wars All Stars competition next month.

Miss Geena's performance saw her take out the competition which will see her compete in the all stars competition.

The event is hosted by Kita Mean and Anita Wiglit, who just celebrated the 2 year anniversary of the drag wars competition.
