Nothing much happens on Yo La Tengo records. A few drones, some hushed singing, quietly propulsive guitars. No wonder they got to play the Velvet Underground in the film I Shot Andy Warhol.

But on this latest effort by the New Jersey trio with Kiwi connections — David Kilgour joined the live band for their recent American tour — that nothing much happens so exquisitely it's hard to love every pindrop moment. Right from the hypnotic hum of opener Everyday through the relatively upbeat

The Last Days of Disco to the extended finale Night Falls on Hoboken, it's an album of chilled charms. One for watching the leaves fall on cold autumn afternoons.
