Is April the Giraffe's birth the best April Fool's Day joke ever?

The world has been watching intensely as a pregnant giraffe at Animal Adventure Park in New York is due to give birth, but has the internet been tricked by the best April Fool's Day joke ever?

Conspiracy theorists believe the giraffe, suspiciously named April, is not actually pregnant and that millions of people who have been on the edge of their seats waiting to see the birth of the giraffe's fourth calf are in for a non-event.

Giraffes are pregnant for around 14 to 15 months, but April was due to give birth mid-February and over a month later, the world still watches and waits. As April's Facebook page has been suggesting for the past few months, April could give birth "any day now."

The live feed on YouTube, that is still being watched by hundreds of thousands of people a day and has attracted over 15 million views so far, also has a new sponsor this week: Toys'R'Us, which ZM's Fletch, Vaughan and Megan also believe is a huge hint to the joke. The trio even cleverly suggested that April could be about to "give birth" to a sponsored toy giraffe.

The livestream has had its share of ups and downs over the past few months, going down after a major power failure in upstate New York then again when the giraffe cam was deemed too "sexually explicit" for YouTube.

With only two days until April 1 (US time), the world will have to sit tight to see if her lengthy pregnancy results in a baby giraffe or if millions of people around the world have all been caught out be an elaborate prank.
