And so far as "Blur guitarist releases solo album" goes as a selling point - it rather depends on whether you've suffered through Coxon's previous two offerings.
He's always managed to get noisily indulgent stuff out of his system that he couldn't in the craftedenvironment of Blur, which has been superseded lately by singer Damon Albarn's other "band", Gorillaz.
And here again, Coxon attempts to be the English Dinosaur Jr (opener Empty World), when he's not playing slide on a ramshackle acoustic blues ditty (I'm Going Away), or showing up his vocal limitations on the quieter tunes such as Too Uptight.
But on the likes of Burn It Down he still makes a fine one-man punk band, his fierce delivery especially impressive for someone who looks like a thirtysomething Harry Potter.
