Hokitika's Wildfoods Festival is celebrating 30 years of bringing weird and wonderful delicacies to adventurous foodies.
Wildfoods Festival event manager Amber Popaite says "everything is about the food".
The more than 50 food stalls include daring delicacies such as brain pate, chicken feet, lamb testicles, huhu grubs, snouts on astick, and nipples on a stick.
Westland Mayor Bruce Smith opened the festival at midday.
There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a kapa haka performance and a 30th anniversary birthday cake.

Entertainment includes performances by the NZ Army Band, live music from local artists, cooking displays, a fashion show and a fireworks display to end the festivities.
If children are not interested in sampling huhu grubs, the Kids Corner has face painting, bouncy castles, a candy shop and more.
Popaite says the event is expecting to draw a hungry crowd of 10,000.
