The garage scene in Auckland is very much an underground one, says Jason Howson, local garage music aficionado. Along with Sean Lyons, he hosts Silk Cuts, a show devoted to garage music that airs on George FM, 7 pm Sundays.
The 28-year-old is one of only half a dozen DJs in
Auckland who take the music seriously and play it in the city's clubs.
In fact, Howson is largely responsible for making people aware of this new genre. Not only will you find him on K' Rd at the Rumba Bar every Thursday night, once a month he appears at Khuja Lounge in Upper Queen St under the guise Two-Steps to Heaven.
He also organises many of the one-off gigs that crop up from time to time around the city.
And he's in the garage sale business too - selling records from his home.
