Ever watched TV2 Headline News? It's the 30-second snapshot of major world events like ... (breathless pause) ... "Liz Hurley broke a fingernail today." Charlie's Angels is the perfect movie for anyone who watches TV2 Headline News.
Based on the 70s TV series, John Forsythe reprises
his role as the disembodied voice who issues commands to the three girls (these are not women) who work for his detective agency. This propels them into a series of action scenes which they survive with only minor injuries to their makeup.
Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu are Angels Natalie, Dylan and Alex or, if you have trouble telling them apart, redhead, blond and brunette. In the language of their times, you've come a long way, baby ... not.
Then there's Bill Murray, who is well, Bill Murray, Sam Rockwell as a kidnapped millionaire and Tim Curry as a villain, but to go on any further would give the misapprehension that there is a plot here. No point in trashing it, though — its audience will love it and besides, the movie does that too well itself.
