"So we thought it's time for us to give back."
Mrs Aldrich said her mother and some very close friends had suffered from breast cancer, and six months ago her husband had been told he had kidney cancer.
The tenpin bowling centre had also lost five league players in the last two years and "a few have also gone or are going through trouble times with cancer".
The Strikers have been busy fundraising.
One of the fundraising initiatives is hosting a bowling night on Sunday from 5pm where for $10 you get a game and some nibbles.
"There will be raffles and giveaways on the night," Doreen said.
"People can pop into Kapiti Tenpin now to grab a ticket.
"It will be a fun night and will help our team get to $5000 for a good cause."
Doreen said she will have her hair shaved if the fundraising target is raised.
"It's only hair and it will grow back.
"If we can raise $5000 and help someone ease the pain and suffering of cancer then bring it on."
Jeff and Jenni Adlam, from Action Safety, have donated blue t-shirts for the team for their fundraising drive.
Relay for Life Kapiti is at Mazengarb Reserve, Paraparaumu, from 4pm Saturday Feb 18 until 9am Sunday Feb 19.
