Paraparaumu Beach company takes top house title

This Peka Peka house, created by S & J Mackay Builders, took out the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2017 Supreme House of the Year award.

A Paraparaumu Beach based building company, S & J Mackay Builders, has been awarded the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2017 Supreme House of the Year title, a gold award and category win for the Nulook New Home $700,000-$1 million category, along with the outdoor living award for a home they built in Peka Peka.

Judges said the winning House of the Year was a cleverly designed home with a high level of finish. The house was designed by Hunter Architecture Ltd, Paraparaumu Beach.

"This home was built on a restricted site with the sea and a tranquil lake to the north and beautiful native planting to the south.

"The connection between indoor and outdoor is well thought out with bunker-like garages, providing privacy between the street and house.

"The home has a high sustainability aspect, with the use of passive heat gain, high insulation levels, durable cladding systems, and the use of grey water for irrigation.

"The extensive use of colour and texture adds to the casual feel of this beautiful home worthy of this award."

S & J Mackay Builders owners Janice and Steve Mackay were delighted.

"We are a small company and so to win the supreme award from our only entry was fantastic.
