Shaken mum loses almost everything during break-in at Levin home

A Levin solo mother no longer wants to live in her home after burglars stole almost everything she and her young son owned.

A Levin solo mother is "shaken to the core" after burglars broke into her house over the weekend, taking almost everything she and her young son own.

Che Lahmert said she arrived at her Roosevelt St home about midday on Saturday to find a broken door hanging off its hinges and windows open and twisted.

Almost everything was gone, from the TV and stereo, to the washing machine, dryer and even the vacuum cleaner as well as her son's buggy, his shoes and many personal possessions.

The home is being renovated, and Lahmert, who works fulltime, said when she first arrived, she thought the builder was working.

"I walked inside and called out for the builder," she said.

"Seconds later I guess it sunk in and I started howling, holding my son. They took everything of ours. My son's kindy book was on the floor and they left a dirty footprint on it. How could they do that to him?"

Lahmert said she had not yet transferred her contents insurance as she was in the process of moving to the Roosevelt St house from her previous home.

She said the theft had left her feeling targeted, vulnerable and without any of the things she had worked so hard for.

"I don't know if they care but they have affected me terribly," she said. "Any noise I'm in tears. I don't want to live in my neighbourhood again."

She said the burglars didn't realise they were ruining people's lives, their faith in other people and their sense of security.

People were asked to contact police if they see the following items offered for sale secondhand: Electrolux front loading washing machine and condenser dryer, child's mountain buggy in as-new condition, 50 inch black Panasonic flat screen TV on a stand, floor standing Sony stereo, toddler's Adidas grey and white shoes (new with tags), red Kensington bagless vacuum cleaner or other personal items that may have gib dust on.

Lahmert is offering a reward for information leading to the return of her goods.
