What better time to beautify Levin North school's gardens than during Get Outdoors Week 2021?
So thought school parent Janelle Cody, mum of local environmental heroes the Waste Warriors, when she was approached by Mo Collins from Recreational Services, Horowhenua to see if they could organise something with the boysand their peers.
The school has three raised garden beds and there were three classes of students ready to dig in.

Collins wanted her team at Recreational Services to help out locally, and was happy to supply staff, advice, mulch and plants for the activity.
Levin North school's junior team leader, Megan McKenzie, said Mo and her team provided the momentum to clean up and replant the garden beds.
"Children that had not really shown any interest in gardening got stuck in with great support and advice from the RS team. The children loved being part of the learning experience," said McKenzie.

The children were also very impressed that Recreational Services provided a sausage sizzle for all the helpers.
Collins said it was a fabulous morning and great fun was had by all.
"The kids all seemed to enjoy themselves and got stuck in helping with weeding, planting and mulching the gardens. They also helped cooking and serving up the sausage sizzle – girl power!"
