It was a good day at the yards for buyers.

The first day of spring in Horowhenua had a good sale with plenty of options. A large yarding of calves with F/H bulls $146 - $200, F/H heifers $80 - $140. Sheep - ewes and lambs $45 - $55, lambs $80 - $105, fat ewes $100.

Cattle section- heavy heifers $1280, Ris 2-year-old heifers $700, yearling F/H heifers $870 - $800, Freisian steers $600, cross-bred $450 - $500. Feilding sale was strong on all fronts.

A good yarding of two-year-old cattle sold to a solid buying bench in Rongotea with a good selection of autumn weaners. Two-year-old white face steers 358 kg - 570 kg made up to $1660 ($2.88 - $2.91), Angus cross steers 505 kg made $1345 ($2.66) and cross breed steers 390 kg made $1020 ($2.62).

Two-year-old white face heifers 360 kg - 495 kg made up to $1340 ($2.71 - $3.11), Angus cross heifers 382 kg made $1160 ($3.03) and cross breed heifers 430 kg - 448 kg made up to $1070 ($2.26 - $2.39).

Eighteen-month-old Friesian bulls 355 kg made $965 ($2.72) and cross breed bulls 340 kg made $935 ($2.75). Fifteen-month-old Friesian heifers 267 kg made $670 ($2.50).
Yearling white face steers 199 kg - 279 kg made up to $960 ($3.44 - $3.55) and Galloway steers 207 kg made $610 ($2.95).

Yearling Friesian bulls 159 kg - 252 kg made up to $710 ($2.81 - $3.18), white face bulls 190 kg made $710 ($3.74) and Jersey bulls 165 kg - 279 kg made up to $650 ($2.31 - $2.64). Cross breed bulls 115 kg - 195 kg made up to $610 ($3.13 - $3.30).
Yearling white face heifers 262 kg - 350 kg made up to $990 ($2.83 - $3.06) and 152 kg - 187 kg made up to $580 ($3.11 - $3.54).

Weaner Angus cross steers 124 kg - 138 kg made up to $500 ($3.17 - $4.03) and Ayrshire cross steers 130 kg made $530 ($4.07).

Weaner Friesian bulls 110 kg - 170 kg made up to $460 ($2.71 - $3.82). Weaner white face heifers 130 kg - 200 kg made up to $590 ($2.79 - $4.19) and Angus cross heifers 125 kg made $390 ($3.12).

In calf Jersey cows made $900, in milk Jersey cows made $890 and in calf Jersey heifers made $500.

Friesian boner cows 430 kg - 662 kg made up to $1125 ($1.58 - $1.70) and cross breed boners 390 kg - 486 kg made up to $800 ($1.37 - $1.65).

Weaner pigs $80 - $90. Dry ewes $110.

Top Friesian bull calves $120 - $205 smaller calves $20-$80. Big white face bull calves made $150 - $230 and smaller calves made $20 - $100. Big white face heifer calves made $275 and smaller calves made $20 - $95.
