Forget cooking competitions, talent quests or even the Rugby World Cup, New Zealand's most-watched television shows have been revealed and the results are perplexing.
Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud has topped the list as 2015's most-watched show with viewers aged 25-54, according to Nielsen.
The TV2 show, which screenedin June, represents the cheapest kind of television available, compiling YouTube clips of cats accompanied by comedic commentary.
And if that's not enough to make you weep, a sequel to the programme - Cats Make You Laugh Out 2 - also featured in the list, coming in at ninth place.
The nation's love of sport was reflected in the results with the Cricket World Cup final coming in second place on Prime, while Sky's broadcast of the Bledisloe Cup was the fifth most-watched programme of the year.
Curiously, the Rugby World Cup failed to make the top 10 list, most likely due to its unsociable screening times in the early hours of the morning.
Meanwhile, TV One continues to be the broadcaster of choice for those aged over 55, with all but one of the top 10 programmes screening on the network.
One News was the most watched programme for viewers aged 5+, ahead of Border Patrol and Fair Go.
Dancing With the Stars was TV3's highest rating series, ranking a distant 59th place with viewers aged 5+.
