American action hero Dominic Purcell, star of Prison Break, will be a surprise ringside guest at boxer Joseph Parker's bout in Manukau tomorrow night.
Purcell, who was also at the Black Caps match on Saturday, is filming a TVNZ tele-movie for the next six weeks called Abandoned, based on the Rose Noelle story and the crew's survival.
The 45-year-old is a guest of Kevin Barry - Parker's trainer. Purcell, who recently split from actress AnnaLynne McCord, is a mad boxing fan, and friends with Freddie Roach, who trains Filipino world champ Manny Pacquiao.
Also at the title fight in Parker's corner will be rugby legends Jerome Kaino and Stephen "Beaver" Donald, and UFC champ Mark Hunt.
Keisha's battle wear revealed
The breastplate armour worn by Keisha Castle-Hughes, who appears as Sand Snake Obara in series five of Game of Thrones has drawn the attention of Vanity Fair magazine.
"The Sand Snakes definitely have ... well-defined, shall we say, 'peaks' on their armour," the mag writes.
"This costuming decision is not the most revealing in Game of Thrones history, but it is a little puzzling."
Castle-Hughes and her armour join Rosabell Laurenti Sellers and Jessica Henwick, who play the bastard daughters of Ellaria Sand and Oberyn Martell, who all have lethal fighting skills.
Obara uses the spear, Tyene the double daggers, and Nymeria the whip, in the new season which starts next month.
But it is the pecs appeal of Castle-Hughes' costume that may prove the most distracting weapon.
Meet the Bachelorettes vying for Art
The Diary broke the news that businessman and fitness fanatic Art Green is the star of TV3's upcoming reality bonkbuster The Bachelor NZ. His colleagues say he's come off a long-term relationship and is genuinely looking for love.
There's no shortage of ambitious contenders vying for his heart.
The network has drip-fed three names - Thames realtor Rosie Kininmonth, yoga instructor Crystal Chenery and Auckland barrister Danielle Beston - but have yet to reveal all the ladies who have been shacked up in a Karaka mansion with roses, candles and a competitive sense of romance.
However, the Facebook group "January 2015", which runs an advertisement for The Bachelor NZ, lists more than a dozen women, including Chenery. Also named are: Poppy Salter, Hayley Blundell, Kristie Leonard, Natasha Fairley, Brigette Dickson, Lisa Loch, Shivani Bhula, Amanda Macdonald, Natalie Erika, Danielle Robinson and Carissa McDonald.
Are these the women vying for Art's heart? Yes, says TV3. A spokeswoman for the show confirmed "they are the bachelorettes" but profile information from the network won't be available until tomorrow, she said. The Facebook page has since been taken down.
Rowers follow their punt
The Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day at Ellerslie today will be a sports star affair with rugby names playing chauffeurs and Olympic rowers taking to the track.
Gold medal rowing quintet Eric Murray, Hamish Bond, Mahe Drysdale, Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan will be taking a special interest with their horse Aotearower (geddit?) running in the McKee Family Sunline Vase. Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, from Cambridge Stud, and Brenton Cooper from Social Racing, have shares in the horse, too.
Sullivan and Cohen will be on course, but Bond, Murray and Drysdale are competing at the national rowing trials. Meanwhile, Blues players Keven Mealamu, Charlie Faumuina, James Parson, Brynn Hall, Angus Ta'avao and Joe Edwards will ferry guests in golf carts from the entrance to the hospitality area. It's a long walk in heels.
Aussie cricket partners hit the heights during Auckland sightseeing
While Shane Warne was flogging his range of undies online and posing with Australasia's prime ministers, prettier cricketing Aussies have been busy lapping up the Auckland sights.
Kyly Clarke (spouse of skipper Michael Clarke), Candice Falzone (partner of David Warner) and Alyssa Healy (Aussie women's cricketer and girlfriend of Mitchell Starc) went to Rangitoto in the Hauraki Gulf for a power walk.
"What a view," Mrs Clarke posted. "We did it!! Hit the top of Rangitoto in 40 mins!!"
The former model and weather presenter, who also moonlights as a Rebel Sport ambassador, climbed Mt Eden, too, taking the obligatory selfie.
